Being in attendance first hand Wednesday Night and watching the team implode, it was even more upsetting then watching it on TV. It was my second game attended this year. (I actually got the tickets to this one for free thanks to the last one I went to getting delayed by rain for 3 hours. Game 3 of the Cubs series if you remember. That one went a little better.)
Being at Shea is always a great time. We sat in Mezz down the right field side, a good 60 feet from the foul pole and anything that was hit to Shawn Green in the corner was not visible. But who am I to complain, they were free tickets.
After Ollie riggled out of trouble in the first and Beltran drove in LoDuca in the bottom half, the place was rockin, but Ollie's control problems took the fans out of the game. This is the second time I've been to a game where the pitcher who was going was electric when i watched on TV, but the feeling was flat at Shea. The other was Pedro against the Orioles last year. The game where Benson homered off him. Just once I want to experience that feeling of electricity. The closest I got was a Seo/Looper shutout of the Nats in 2004.
I missed the Hunter homer as I was down in the team store looking, to no avail, for either an Ollie or Carlos Gomez tee. Last year when I went they had a Milledge one so I figured Ollie and Gomez would be easy to find. Nothing. They had the usual Beltran, Delgado, Reyes and Wright, also available at Wal-Mart or Target for 10 bucks less. They also had LoDuca (contract year, didnt wanna waste it), Green (maybe in April, not so much now), Wagner and some guy I never heard of named Alou...wierd. I ended up with a Wright tee with the American flag inside the letters and number. I originally was going to go with Reyes but the guy at the stand looked at my 100% Caucasian face and said "That's the dominican flag in there...i'm not sure if you're dominican, but Wright is the American flag."
Does it piss anyone else off how VIP field level at Shea has become? You cant even get onto Field Level without a field level ticket? Seriously? If I'm gonna go down and drop a hundred bucks at the team store I should be able to at least watch the rest of the current inning from field level. I understand there are some people that just stand there, but they are the ones that Security should tell to leave. Not me because I don't want to miss half the game on the trip. What a joke.
As for the game. I knew it was over when Show appeared, to a chorus of boos. He left being showered by boos. Others recieving boos were Delgado, Smith (which I don't understand) and Green.
Unlike many in atendance crying woah, I had faith until the last out, but the walk to the LIRR just isnt as good after a loss.
My next game will be during the Cincinatti series. I've been a big Griffey fan since I was a kid so that one should be interesting. Mets fan first though. Lets go Mets. 2 of three from Oakland this weekend would be sweet.
